A week under sail on our Hanse 63 in the San Blas archipelago is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in its own right. But what truly turns it into a defining life moment is the food. Aboard Sailing Freedom it’s never just about eating – it’s about a culinary journey shaped by the Caribbean, the ocean, and the freshness of local ingredients. Every bite is authentic, simple, and yet quietly sophisticated.
Expect a kitchen that blends tradition, tropical freshness, the riches of the sea and the refined touch of our onboard chefs, who cook with passion every day, to your tastes – and always with a view no restaurant on land could ever match.
Dinners: The Very Best of the Caribbean – From Sea to Plate
Freshness You Can See From the Deck
There are no supermarkets or shopping centres in San Blas. Here, nature writes the menu.
Fish, lobster, prawns, octopus, clams – everything comes straight from local fishermen who pull alongside the yacht with their morning catch.
In the hands of our chefs, those ingredients become dishes that wouldn’t look out of place in the pages of a leading food guide.
The Grill: Our Temple of Flavour
Sailing Freedom is equipped with a large grill on deck – absolutely essential in the Caribbean.
Most evenings revolve around it:
- grilled fillets of fresh fish in a bright citrus marinade
- lobster in butter with garlic and herbs
- octopus seared until crisp on the outside, served simply with lime
- shellfish gently cooked in coconut milk
- generous platters of grilled vegetables with local spices
The aroma from the grill, the sun setting behind the palms and the sound of the sea combine into an atmosphere no Michelin-starred restaurant can quite recreate.
A Menu Built Around You
Whether you adore seafood or prefer to avoid it altogether, our chefs tailor each menu around your wishes:
- gluten-free options
- lactose-free variations
- vegetarian and vegan cuisine
- light “fitness” style menus
- smaller portions for children
Your preferences are not a footnote for us – they’re a promise. And a challenge we’re genuinely delighted to take on.
Breakfast: A Tropical Awakening
Caribbean mornings have a flavour all of their own. On board, they taste even better.
A typical breakfast might include:
- fresh tropical fruit – papaya, mango, pineapple, passion fruit
- banana fritters with honey or homemade syrup
- cassava (manioc) prepared the way local communities make it
- scrambled eggs or omelettes cooked to your liking
- freshly baked bread – yes, we bake it on board
- a selection of teas, coffee, juices and coconut water
Breakfast is served on the aft deck, overlooking a turquoise lagoon.
Lunches: From Light Bites to Full Board
Daytime is usually spent in the water, on a paddleboard or exploring the islands by tender. That’s why lunches are often light, easy and refreshing:
- sandwiches and wraps with crisp vegetables
- fresh, colourful salads
- homemade spreads and dips
- plenty of tropical fruit
If you prefer a full board option, we’re happy to provide it. Lunches then once again revolve around seafood, local vegetables and light Caribbean recipes designed to keep you energised without ever feeling heavy.
Coconut Heaven
One of San Blas’ little secrets?
Coconuts are everywhere – and they are always fresh.
On the islands you can drink coconut water straight from a nut picked off the tree. The locals will open it for you with a swift cut of a machete, and within seconds you’re sipping the purest coconut water imaginable – no plastic, no added sugar, no effort.
There is no greater luxury than settling into the white sand, coconut in hand, watching the horizon framed by swaying palms.
The Sailing Freedom Chefs: The Heart of Our Galley
Our chefs are the soul of life on board. Their work doesn’t end at the stove. They are constantly:
- adapting menus to your tastes, allergies and lifestyle
- drawing inspiration from local culture and ingredients
- working with whatever is freshest and best that day
- creating a relaxed, homely atmosphere around the table
- serving every dish with an easy, genuine smile
For them, cooking isn’t a duty – it’s a joy they share with you three times a day.
In the End: Food That Tastes Like the Caribbean Itself
Gastronomy aboard Sailing Freedom isn’t an add-on. It’s a leading role – the element that turns a beautiful voyage into something unforgettable.
Fresh ingredients, the scent of the grill, tropical fruit, luxury produce straight from the sea and the personal touch of our chefs combine into something that is almost impossible to describe in words – it simply has to be experienced.
If there is a place where food genuinely tastes like paradise, it’s on the deck of Sailing Freedom at sunset, with a plate of freshly grilled lobster in front of you and the sound of the Caribbean Sea in the background.
That is what true happiness tastes like.
